Hot Sauce Fever Preview - Review Site Coming Soon

A few months ago, I went online in search of a new hot sauce. I’d tasted a few habanero-based sauces here and there, and was looking to start a collection of my own with something more intriguing; with a richer flavor and some intense heat. I found a helpful blog or two, and some storefronts, but was surprised at the lack of a modern hot sauce-related site; somewhere where I could find a new interesting sauce. A lot of sites at the top of Google search results looked like they were designed in the 1990s.

Why wasn’t there a site like beeradvocate.com? If you haven’t been there, it’s a huge community of people who are into beer tasting and reviewing. Their scores are even printed out on labels at stores like Total Wine. I see the same level of passion from a lot of people who are into hot sauce, chili, and chili peppers. The addicts even call themselves chiliheads.

So, I decided to create a user review site for hot sauces. I’d like it to serve as the go-to ultimate list/database/reference for hot sauce. It also will feature guides on growing hot peppers (I’ve been doing that lately).

Yii and Responsive Development

Over the last few months, I’ve been building the site using the Yii Framework. It’s following the new mantra of responsive design too. Using the Yii Framework, and switching to developing responsively using fluid grids and media queries has been a learning experience, as intended. I’ll detail some of what I’ve learned in some later blog posts. For now, I’m just spilling the beans on this new project. Thanks to my talented designer friend Danny Day, the site is looking even better than I could have hoped for.

I’ve used the site/service Kickoff Labs to host the coming soon landing page, which has worked perfectly.

Great idea! Never knew there were so many hot sauces out there! I’ll have to come up with a good recipe to share! Good luck with the website.
